Researching ways to reduce Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)

Along with our research partners, we’re researching ways to reduce Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) in new and expectant parents and to inform programs that improve self-efficacy:

  • Healthy Start, Healthy Future has commissioned a study to be undertaken by The Maternal Mental Health Research Collaborative to outline the significance of peer support and its impacts on maternal-child outcomes.
  • Results from third-party led focus groups and surveys conducted in March 2010 indicated that Life With A Baby program participants felt less isolated, felt they were better parents and were more able to cope with the unpredictable emotions challenges new parents
    face.
  • A 2-year research project is currently underway to uncover and develop ways to better support mothers in rural and underserved communities across Canada.
